Wasting our waste
The green transition and digitalization are accelerating the demand for critical raw materials, and new sources are already being sought in the Arctic, the oceans – even in outer space. At the same time, one of the largest untapped resources flows past us every day: wastewater.
Humanity knows how to recycle – at least solid materials. Yet vast amounts of valuable materials remain bound in liquid streams, allowed to go to waste.

Our history
Weeefiner emerged from cutting-edge chemical research and the breakthrough idea of adding a fourth, chemically active dimension to 3D-printed components. This innovation gave rise to our 4D Scavenger® technology and laid the foundation for the company, positioning us at the forefront of sustainable material recovery.
2025
- Weeefiner was selected as one of the leading solutions in Uplink’s Mining the Unmined challenge.
- We received Resource Recovery New Business Award from the International Water Association.
- Weeefiner’s solutions were incorporated into HYXO’s product portfolio, strengthening our position in the Finnish water treatment sector.
- We launched an expanded collaboration project with Neste.

2024
- We launched the On Demand model to enable flexible adoption of 4D Scavenger® solutions.
- Weeefiner won mining company Eramet’s water resource innovation challenge.
- We participated in major public project, including iMERMAID and Remhub.
- Our nutrient recovery solution was piloted at recirculating aquaculture system.

2023
- We started a development project with Rio Tinto mining group as part of their international Sustainable Water Treatment challenge.
- Weeefiner’s CEO and CTO received the Young Researcher Entrepreneur Award.
- We moved to new facilities in Jyväskylä’s Eteläportti to meet the growing need for production space.
2022
- Weeeefiner signed a partnership agreement with Andritz.
- We received ‘Save the Baltic Sea’ award in recognition of our contribution to environmental protection.
- Midinvest made an equity investment to accelerate growth and internationalization.
- First full-scale equipment delivery for stormwater treatment.
2021
- First recruitment completed.
- Pilot tests at customer sites commenced.
- Mikko Hänninen appointed as CEO.
- Technology ready for commercialization and industrial deployment.
2020
- The company’s operational activities commenced.
- First customer trials were initiated.
- Seed funding from Unifund Oy and Hanki Development to support growth and market entry.
2017-2019
- Spinout from the University of Jyväskylä – with roots deeply embedded in cutting-edge chemical research.
- Weeefiner Oy was founded in 2017 to advance the 4D Scavenger® technology.
- The technology was developed alongside academic research.
- Early patent applications were filed to protect the core innovations of the technology.
