The Nordic Innovation Award, now held for the second time, recognizes companies that develop sustainable innovations and leverage strong intellectual property expertise as a foundation for their business. The competition is organized in collaboration between the intellectual property offices of Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. This year, the event was hosted by the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (Patentstyret), with the final taking place in Oslo.

The competition featured five outstanding innovation finalists from across the Nordic region. Weeefiner, selected as Finland’s finalist, was awarded the Nordic Innovation Award 2026 for its 4D Scavenger® solution.

Innovation impact and strong IP at the core

At the heart of this achievement is our 4D Scavenger® solution, which enables the selective recovery of valuable raw materials from industrial water streams in an efficient, precise, and sustainable manner. In its evaluation, the jury highlighted the solution’s significant environmental and economic impact, as well as Weeefiner’s strategic and long-term approach to protecting its intellectual property.

“This award confirms that we are on the right path and working on solutions that truly matter. What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it is rooted in strong research and intellectual property expertise – the very foundations on which we are building the solutions of the future,” says CTO Elmeri Lahtinen.

A strong part of the Nordic innovation landscape

Finnish patent and registration office’s (PRH) Director General and Chair of the jury, Antti Riivari, highlights the high level of the competition and the strength of the Nordic innovation environment.

“The large number of high-quality innovations submitted to the competition demonstrates the strength and potential of innovation and economic expertise in the Nordic countries. The Nordic Innovation Award highlights responsible innovations and also serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting intellectual property,” Riivari states.

We are proud to be part of the Nordic innovation community that develops solutions to global challenges. At the same time, this recognition reinforces our belief that innovation is not just an idea. True impact is created when ideas are developed with determination, properly protected, and persistently brought into practical application.

The Nordic Innovation Award 2026 is a significant recognition of our work to date—and a strong encouragement to continue advancing sustainable industry and the circular economy.

Congratulations to all finalists and to the Finnish recipients of the PRH’s honorary mentions.
