Weeefiner and 3D Formtech Advance the Role of 3D Printing in the Circular Economy

3D Formtech’s expertise in industrial 3D printing supports Weeefiner’s strategic approach to incorporating the circular economy into all aspects of its business.

The companies have entered into a collaboration agreement to improve the recycling of printing materials. This partnership aims to recycle and utilize materials in 3D printing, allowing up to 100% of waste materials to be utilized in the future.

“We see a significant opportunity in our collaboration with Weeefiner to highlight the potential of 3D printing to minimize material waste while supporting environmentally friendly business models. Traditional manufacturing methods involve cutting or shaping material to make a part. In contrast, 3D printing involves adding material only where needed, reducing waste. Thus, 3D printing is inherently a sustainable choice for manufacturing,” comments Toni Järvitalo, founder of 3D Formtech.

“Together, we can promote an industrial transformation towards more sustainable, resource-saving solutions that align with the principles of the circular economy. We want 3D Formtech to be a leader in responsible 3D printing in sustainable development,” continues Järvitalo.

3D Printing and 4D Scavenger™: Sustainability in Industrial Water Treatment

3D printing is an essential part of Weeefiner’s business as the company provides material recovery and water treatment solutions for industrial needs. Weeefiner produces tailored solutions to improve material efficiency, enabling the mining, process, and chemical industries to recover valuable materials while purifying water.

Weeefiner uses 3D-printed porous filter-like 4D Scavenger®, made from mixtures of binders and chemically active materials, in its solutions.

“Offering sustainable and circular economy-based solutions is our core business, but we also want to improve the sustainability of our own production processes and reduce our carbon footprint,” says Mikko Hänninen, CEO of Weeefiner.

“Collaboration with 3D Formtech allows us to utilize recycled materials in our processes, potentially leading to almost all ingredients used in 4D Scavenger® production coming from reuse. Additionally, the carbon-reducing and climate-neutral materials used by 3D Formtech make this reuse even carbon-negative,” Hänninen continues.
